what to do??

Hi Everyone,

We have just had confirmation that our 4 year old is classified as gifted.

He has been tested recently, with the outcome of having an IQ of 132 in the 5 year old catergory, putting him in the top 2% for 5 year olds. (with him not actually 5 until another 3 months!)

At first of was so proud & exciting for him. Now - all I feel is nervous & scared about his future & the decisions that we are now faced with!

It has been discussed about Private vs Public Primary school for him next year & putting him straight into Grade 1. I'm not sure if emotionally he will be able to cope with this.....what to do??

I also feel isolated from my friends from playgroup & kinder too. I feel as though I can't discuss this issue with them because it might sound as though I am "boasting" about my son. I have been accused of using "flashcards" when my son was younger to allow him to read early etc - very frustrating!

Anyway - just thought I might introduce ourselves. It looks as though will we get some support here instead!

Thanks for listening.....

Renea

Re: what to do??

What ever you do dont discuss it with any school mums...it can be very isolating and cruel. They will not understand. Chat with the school cousellor. It is very hard I have not yet found who i can caht with.
