Not sure what to do????
I'm not sure if I'll even get a response to this but here goes!!! Our little girl started prep in Vic this year in a local primary school. She has been able to read words from 18months & at the age of 5 is now interested in anatomy books & the atlas. We have been giving her grade 3 maths book, only because she has been asking for something harder. I ask her how her day was in prep & she says i was easy, I then ask her if she was bored & she respondse with, "No, I wasn't bored because I helped others learn letters & numbers". Am I concerned much,,uuummmm YEP! Had a meeting with the specialist teacher whom told me that due to "government funding", they couldn't provide anything more to challenge my child???? It was also suggested that we enrol her in a private school as they would cater for her more. At what point do you go & get your child tested??? I mean, I would love to send my child to a local private school (if it's going to challenge her), but the waiting lists are insane. Would it help if we gwt her tested???

Re: Not sure what to do????
Hi haveaalaugh (or in the case haveacry)
That;s just terrible. There ARE schools that do this well. My DD in prep was reading at year 4 level in class with other of similar ability. Private schools are NOT necessarily better. I would suggest having her assessed, perhaps with CHIP or similar, then asking their advice on moving schools. With the CHIP result, you can then present it to your current school and ask them what their plan is (sounds like it will be to do nothing, in which case you run run run!)
Could you make an appointment with the principal?
Care to tell us what area you are in?
GOOD LUCK!!!
